How to Upscale a Video to 4K for Free (Online, No Watermark)

Old phone clips, 480p downloads and screen recordings often look soft on today's screens. This guide shows how to upscale a video to 4K for free with Lumio Studio – right in your browser, with no watermark – and how to get the cleanest result.

Open the free video upscaler
  1. Choose a video

Open the video upscaler and drop in an MP4 or MOV clip up to 1 minute long. MKV, WebM and AVI files work too, but they are processed on the server after you sign in (up to 200 MB).

  2. Pick Fast Upscale or AI Enhance

Fast Upscale enlarges and sharpens the video quickly using your GPU and hardware encoder. AI Enhance improves each frame with AI for more detail and takes longer. Choose 2x or 4x – the output is capped at 4K.

  3. Preview and download

Keep the tab open while the video is processed, watch the preview, compare the file size and download your sharper video.

Common questions

Is every video processed in my browser?

Most MP4 and MOV clips are. Other formats, HDR footage or devices without the right hardware switch to the server automatically after you sign in; those files are deleted once you download the result.

Why does AI Enhance take longer?

A one-minute clip has well over a thousand frames, and AI Enhance processes every one of them. Fast Upscale is much quicker when you just need a larger, crisper video.

Does 4K output mean 4K detail?

More pixels make video look smoother and sharper, but they cannot fully recreate detail the original never captured. A clean, well-lit source always upscales best.

What are the limits?

Clips can be up to 1 minute long, and server-processed files up to 200 MB. Results are capped at 4K (3840 pixels on the longest side).
